TPCASSTT is an awesome tool to help you analyze poetry.
T- Title - What do you think the poem will be about?
P - Paraphrase. Read the poem twice. The first time just put pictures in your head. The second time begin making sense of the poem. Paraphrase answers the question "What's this poem about?"
C - Connotation - Circle all the important words in the poem. Select one word that describes that list of words.
A- Attitude - What is the subject of the poem? What is the poet's attitude toward that subject?
S- Style - Take a look at the rhyme, rhythm, repetition and stanzas. These are often clues to the next "S"
S- Shift - The poem changes from _____________ to ________________. There may be more than one.
T- Title - Now that you have analyzed the poem, why did the poet give it this title?
T- Theme - What idea does the poet want you to learn?
